Wheel Customization Recommendations from Brotures!

Hello everyone, GORI here from BROTURES Harajuku. It's been heartening to see an increase in people taking up fixed gear biking over the past few years. Despite its lower profile compared to road and cross bikes, it's exciting to see more people choosing fixed gear bikes.

Today, I want to introduce some parts for customization that I highly recommend for anyone who’s got their hands on a fixed gear. Our focus is on “Wheel Customization.”

Wheels are an indispensable part of any bike, and I believe they're as defining as the frame itself. Generally, there are two main types of wheels:

1. Aluminum Wheels:

These are the simple aluminum wheels featured in the photo. They come standard with bikes like the LEADER 721TR and CURE. With a lower rim height, they might have less visual impact but offer a clean and streamlined look.

Next up are wheels with slightly higher rim heights, as seen on models like the LEADER 735TR and LEADER 725. The taller rims lend a sharper appearance and reduce aerodynamic drag, enhancing the bike's propulsion. The weight of the rims also contributes to smoother rotation.

Then, there's the twisted spoke wheel, where each spoke is intricately twisted for a strong visual statement. This style, known as Morambon lacing, is quite unique compared to standard lacing methods like radial, 2-cross, or 3-cross. I’d love to delve deeper into this, but to avoid overload, I’ll save more details for a future Q&A!

The key takeaway with aluminum wheels is the endless possibilities for customization. By choosing different rims, hubs, and spokes, and with the skill of a mechanic, you can create a wheel that’s uniquely yours.

2. Carbon Wheels

Carbon Deep Rim Wheels:

These wheels are lighter than aluminum and allow for higher rim heights without adding weight. The carbon material also offers better shock absorption, leading to a more comfortable ride, especially suitable for long distances.

Carbon Baton Wheels:

Probably what most people picture when they think of carbon wheels. Developed for track racing, these wheels are all about acceleration, minimizing air resistance to enhance forward propulsion. The full carbon material ensures remarkable lightness and speed. It's a dream upgrade for many.

Carbon Disc Wheels:

These wheels make a striking visual impact you won’t forget. Also made for track racing, disc wheels are designed to eliminate wind resistance. However, they can be tricky to handle in crosswinds during city rides, so be prepared if you’re considering them for urban cycling.
