How is your bike performing? Have you noticed any rust, stretching, or noisy chain sounds? These could be signs that it's time for a chain replacement!
You might have kept your chain the same since purchasing your fixed gear bike. However, it's crucial to remember that chains are wear items! They link the crank and cog, constantly under friction. Over time and distance, a chain can stretch, leading to what's called a 'chain stretch.' This not only affects your ride but also the noise it makes - making the chain a vital component to maintain.
When to Replace Your Chain
So, when should you replace the chain? Typically, replacing the chain every 3000 to 4000 km or approximately every year is recommended. If your bike often gets wet or muddy, you might need to replace it more frequently. At BROTURES, we offer free periodic maintenance, so feel free to bring your bike in for a check-up. Recommended Chains at BROTURES
At BROTURES, we recommend three types of chains, all certified by the Japan Bicycle Promotion Institute, meaning they meet the NJS standard and their quality is assured.
HKK Vertex Chain Black ¥3,521 (Incl. Tax)
Although this is the standard model, it offers excellent durability and precision, making it a recommended choice that’s also affordable.
HKK Vertex Chain Silver ¥6,051 (Incl. Tax)
The Silver model upgrades both durability and precision, designed for intense riding. It’s a high-spec model that we recommend everyone to try at least once.
Izumi Chain V ¥7,151 (Incl. Tax)
The V chain has been a long-standing choice in track racing and keirin, offering over three times the durability of standard models. It offers high rigidity and responsive performance, with a special coating on the outer plate to reduce drivetrain resistance. Ideal for fixed gear bikes that undergo heavy stress like skidding, it’s a top-class chain from IZUMI, renowned for its expertise in both bicycles and motor vehicles.
