Go for the Long Ride: Fixed Gear Biking with a Custom Engine11

It's a common misconception that fixed gear bikes aren't cut out for long rides, but this is just a stereotype. Whether a road bike or a fixed gear, long-distance cycling demands preparation and determination. With proper planning and a bit of grit, enjoying a long ride on a fixed gear bike is entirely feasible. Regarding comfortable long-distance riding, the choice of frame and components becomes crucial. If I were to take on a long ride, here's the bike setup I'd go for:

Engine11 CritD LTD Team Edition

Engine11 is known for its frames that have proven themselves in numerous criterium races. Their durability and performance are sufficient even for competitive settings. However, for someone like me who doesn't race, using Engine11 for rides like these seems most effective.

Handlebar: Easton EA50
Stem: Easton EA90
Brake Lever: Promax BL-253

Adjusting your grip can reduce fatigue, making long rides more manageable. I find the combination of drop handlebars with bracket levers to be the best for long rides. Personally, I feel most comfortable with this setup. I've chosen EASTON for both the handlebar and stem because, despite their reputation for rims, their handlebars and stems are of great quality too. The mechanic, Murakami, highly recommends EASTON handlebars for their excellent shape.

Wheels: Easton R90SL x Dura-Ace HB-7600

I've chosen the reputable EASTON rims to maintain speed and enjoy comfortable handling. Stability in the rotation is key, so I've gone with the cup-and-cone type SHIMANO Dura-Ace for the hubs. Maintaining them well for a smooth ride on long journeys is crucial.

Seatpost: ZIPP Service Course SL SEATPOST

To minimize vibration, I've incorporated a carbon seatpost. Attention to such details can be the deciding factor in long-duration rides.

Crankset: MICHE PISTARD 2.0 Crank Set

For confident pedaling, especially when standing, I've chosen the Miche Pistard 2.0 crankset. I was concerned about the weight of a solid-disc crank and the rigidity. Any looseness during the ride can be a major setback, but with Miche, you can expect a stress-free ride to your destination.

Tires: TUFO CALIBRA

Finally, for tires, I settled on the lightweight TUFO CALIBRA LITE, prioritizing ease of roll and affordability. It’s good to have a spare one for emergencies. In my opinion, these tires offer the best cost-performance ratio

Why Not Go for a Long Ride?

With specifications like these, even someone with less physical stamina, like me, can tackle long distances. It's fascinating to set a goal and then select a frame and components to achieve it. I encourage everyone to try long rides with a setup like this Engine11 and experience it for themselves.
